Land Conservancy of Adams County celebrates conservation benefactors

During its 2025 annual dinner, the Land Conservancy of Adams County honored four landowners who recently preserved Adams County farmland, woodland, open spaces, and freshwater streams. These landowners were Hugh and Nell Matthews, who preserved 37.7 acres in Freedom Township; Sara and Jamey Tatman, who preserved 83.4 acres in Cumberland Township; 4J Farm, which preserved 133.9 acres in Huntington and Tyrone Townships; and Boyer Nurseries and Orchards, which preserved 159 acres in Franklin Township. With this landmark easement, Boyer Nurseries and Orchards has become the first conservation benefactor to preserve over 1,000 acres with the Land Conservancy!

The Land Conservancy welcomed one new board member to its board of directors during the annual meeting. William Gilmartin was voted onto the board by the membership present.

In the 30 years since its founding in 1995, the organization has worked with 195 local landowners to preserve more than 13,759 acres in the county. The Land Conservancy of Adams County is a fully accredited, member-supported nonprofit land trust that works to preserve the rural lands and character of Adams County.
