Land Conservation with a side of Road Rally
Did you know that 4.2% of land in Adams County is preserved with easements held by the Land Conservancy of Adams County. That might not sound like a big number, but it is the 6th highest percent of county land preserved out of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania. This 4.2% of county land is equal to 14,311 acres which are now protected, forever, by the Land Conservancy. I’m sure we’re all grateful to the 147 landowners who took this step to ensure that our community will keep its rural character forever. If you are one of them, thank you.
Preserving these acres as farmland, woodlands and meadows ensures that this land will never be developed—in other words, the scenic views you enjoy today when you walk, bike or drive around Adams County will be protected forever—those farm fields, meadows and forests that give a beautiful natural buffer between our communities and the rest of the busy world will always be as they are today.
Preserving property forever does not involve just a one-time cost. The Land Conservancy is required by law to inspect each preserved parcel every year. These inspections incur an on-going labor cost. If you would like to support the Land Conservancy in their efforts to ensure these farms stay properly preserved please consider attending the 28th Annual Land Conservancy Road Rally titled “Bridges of Adams County” on Saturday, October 17.
Rally Teams tour Adams County testing their skills to follow route instructions that will take them to many scenic and historic points of interest and to a finish line party complete with great food, entertainment, and awards for top performing teams. The Rally Tour is not a race; speed is not a factor. It combines education and fun and takes place during the height of fall colors. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys the peace of a beautiful drive in the country. If interested go to https://www.preserveadams.org/road-rally for registration and additional information.
